Ingredients

1 lb ground beef (80/20 blend for juiciness)

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

Salt & pepper to taste

4 slider buns (ciabatta or brioche recommended)

4 slices of sharp cheddar cheese

1 cup shredded lettuce

1 large tomato, sliced

1/2 cup pickles (dill or sweet, as preferred)

Ketchup and mustard to taste

2 tablespoons vegetable oil (for cooking)

Instructions

Prepare the Patties: In a medium bowl, gently mix the ground beef with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Form into four loose balls (about 3 oz each). Do not overwork the meat for the juiciest result.

Heat the Grill/Pan: Preheat a cast iron skillet or griddle over medium-high heat. Add a tablespoon of vegetable oil and let it heat up until shimmering.

Smash the Patties: Place the beef balls onto the hot skillet, leaving space between them. Using a wide spatula or a flat bottom pot, smash each ball down to form a thin patty about 3-4 inches wide. Sear for about 2-3 minutes until a crust forms on the bottom.

Flip and Cheese: After flipping the patties, immediately place a slice of cheddar cheese on top of each. Cook for another 1-2 minutes until the cheese is melted and the burgers are cooked to your desired doneness.

Toast the Buns: While the patties finish cooking, split the slider buns and toast them in the same skillet for about 1-2 minutes until golden brown.

Assemble the Sliders: Begin layering: on the bottom half of the bun, place a lettuce leaf, followed by a smashed burger patty with melted cheese, a tomato slice, a couple of pickles, and your choice of ketchup and mustard. Top with the other half of the bun.

Serve Warm: Repeat for all sliders and serve immediately while hot.
